Don't Panic During the Pandemic

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).
As the numbers continue to rise for those infected by the Coronavirus and the number of deaths associated with it, we can begin to feel overwhelmed and filled with anxiety. As the news reports flood our televisions, radios, and social media platforms with the rising numbers, and now to hear that the President of the United States and his wife have been infected, you wonder when is it all going to end?
Families are being evicted from their homes, jobs are being lost, businesses are closing, and people are forced to suffer alone with no one to comfort them during their time of sickness. I have to be honest that it all can get you down, but we must keep the faith and keep our hopes in the Lord. 1 Peter 5:10 says And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. Now that's good news!!
We have to make sure that we are doing our part to keep ourselves and others safe. Social distancing is necessary, but relational distancing is not. We need to wear our mask, wash our hands, and keep social distancing as part of our daily practice. We also have to remember the importance of checking on people with a phone call or sending a surprise note in the mail. Maybe a social distancing driveby will put a smile on someone's face. We may be separated during this pandemic, but we still have to stick together by caring for one another and lifting each other in prayer. Don't let the pandemic cause panic and desensitize your care and compassion for others. Don't let your spirit be filled with fear and worry because we serve a miracle-working God. We must trust in the Lord with all heart and lean not on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).
